What Is the Alma™Harmony XL Laser?

The Alma™ Harmony XL laser is one of the most versatile systems in the market. It consists of multiple modules that offer powerful results for six major skin concerns: skin remodeling, vascular lesions, pigmented lesions, tone and texture, hair removal, and acne.

The versatility of the Harmony platform allows our Belladerma team to provide customized treatment for each individual and the area that is being treated. The Alma™ Harmony XL is able to deliver results without affecting the surface of the skin and causing serious side effects.

How Is an IPL® Photofacial Performed?

During a treatment session, the laser-like handpiece of the IPL® device emits intense pulses of light of a specific wavelength that penetrate the surface of the problematic skin. The device can use pulses of many different wavelengths of light, depending on the specific problem.

The light is absorbed by the target: either melanin in the pigmented lesion or redness of a vein or capillary. When the light reaches its target, it converts to heat. The heat causes veins to seal off and become less noticeable, and the pigment in the lesion to fragment. The body absorbs the melanin fragments, or they become flakey and fall off.

The intense pulses of light also heat the skin’s underlying collagen matrix, triggering the production of fresh new collagen. Collagen is a protein that is essential to firm, elastic and youthful-looking skin. Collagen production is gradual, so results will improve with time.

What Can I Expect During Recovery from My IPL® Photofacial?

Since the top layer of skin is not damaged during treatment, photorejuvenation with IPL® requires very little, if any, downtime. Some patients are able to return to work or their normal routine immediately after a treatment session. IPL® can be performed on its own or as part of a comprehensive skin rejuvenation plan. Hilary Black, R.N., consults with each patient individually to establish their specific concerns and goals, and then makes personalized skin care recommendations.

How Many IPL® Photofacial Treatments Will I Need to Start Seeing Results?

Dr. Mozaffari, and his team generally recommend a series of three IPL® treatments, spaced several weeks apart, for maximum effectiveness. Some skin types and conditions may require additional treatments.

How Long Do Results of an IPL® Photofacial Last?

With proper care and follow-up sessions, the results of IPL® can last many years. The key is to practice good skin care habits, including regularly applying sunscreen and using medical-grade skin care products.
