Pre/Post Treatment Protocols

Pre/Post Treatment Protocols for : Injectables, Fat Transfer, Microneedling etc.

  • Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, natural supplements such as Fish oil, Omega 3s, Vitamin E, Garlic, Ginseng, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort and Blueberries preferably for one to two weeks prior to your appointment, unless medically necessary.
  • If you are taking prescription blood thinners such as Coumadin or Plavix, you should check with the prescribing doctor to see if you are able to stop these medicines for 7-10 days before your appointment and at least 3 days after the procedure has been done.
  • If you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on your face, make sure you inform the doctor that you have made your appointment with, one week prior to your appointment; this will allow us adequate time to prescribe a medication to prevent an outbreak.
  • Avoid dental procedures (including cleaning) 2 weeks pre-procedure and 2 weeks post-procedure.
  • Alcohol acts as a blood thinner, so avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to and 24 hours after your procedure.
  • Avoid caffeine for about 24 hours before your procedure and avoid other drinks that have a dehydrating tendency, as this could slow the healing process.
  • It is a good idea to reduce your salt intake for a couple of days before your appointment, especially if you are getting dermal fillers. Injectable fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which binds to water, so reducing your intake of salty foods can help reduce the appearance of swelling after your procedure.
  • By taking Arnica Montana 7days leading up to your appointment, you can reduce bruising.
  • You may also benefit from eating fresh pineapple or taking Bromelain supplements starting 3 days prior to and one week after injections.
  • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment; this will help the skin to be plump and hydrated and assist in the healing process.
  • Eat a small meal or a snack before your appointment.
  • You may take Tylenol® (if not contraindicated) one hour before your appointment to prevent any discomfort you may experience.
  • Come to your appointment with a clean face. **This means NO MAKEUP, MOISTURIZER, OR SUNSCREEN**
  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.
  • Bruising and swelling will be worse for the first 24-48 hours after you receive your treatment. Refrain from exercising for the remainder of the day following your treatment. You may want to refrain from going to any special events during this time.
  • Do not lay down for 4 hours post neurotoxin (Botox, Dysport, etc.) treatment.
  • Do not touch or massage the areas treated UNLESS directed differently (ex. Sculptra).
  • Follow other treatment specific protocols provided to you by your doctor/nurse.
