How Is Blepharoplasty Performed?

During surgery, excess skin and fat are removed from the upper and/or lower eyelids. In upper blepharoplasty surgery, fat can be redistributed, and the muscles can be altered as needed to tighten the lids and restore a clear line of sight. In lower blepharoplasty surgery, under-eye bags are reduced and fine wrinkles around the eyelids are smoothed.

The surgical modifications are performed though tiny incisions in the natural creases of the upper lid and underneath the lower lash line to avoid visible scarring. The transconjunctival blepharoplasty technique involves removing fat from the lower lids only through an incision made in the lower lash line, avoiding a skin incision.

Can Blepharoplasty Be Combined with Other Procedures?

If the patient has expressed additional age-related concerns in other areas of the face, Dr. Mozaffari might recommend combining eyelid surgery with another facial rejuvenation procedure. For example, if the patient is bothered by saggy skin along the jawline and on the neck, Dr.  Mozaffari may recommend a combination eyelid lift with a neck lift. Or, if the mid-face region is problematic, a facelift can help.

Non-surgical treatment options such as laser skin resurfacing, Botox® treatment, and injectable fillers are also a great way to complement the results of eyelid surgery and improve the appearance of the skin.

Are the Results of My Blepharoplasty Permanent?

The results of eyelid surgery are considered to be permanent. However, the natural aging process and other factors can alter the appearance of results in the future. The best way to prolong the rejuvenating effects of eyelid surgery is to practice good skin care habits, including proper sun protection, not smoking, and using medical-grade skin care products. Non-surgical cosmetic treatments, including Botox®, dermal fillers, and laser skin resurfacing, are available to maintain results after surgery.

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

How Is Buccal Fat Pad Removal Performed?

Buccal fat pad removal is performed by making incisions inside the mouth in the cheek. This gives Dr. Mozaffari access to the fat pad. He carefully removes small amounts of fat to sculpt and shape the cheeks.

What Should I Expect from Buccal Fat Removal Recovery?

You will need to keep the incision clean as it heals, and we will provide detailed aftercare instructions at the conclusion of your recovery in our practice. The cheeks may feel tight from swelling. You may have some tenderness and bruising for a few days.

What Is A Deep Plane Facelift?

The term Deep Plane describes the anatomic plane between muscles of facial expression and the muscle and facia complex called SMAS-platysma. As the name suggests, this facelift is done by influencing the movement of the deeper layers of fat and muscle tissue and less on pulling the skin. Releasing ligaments helps to keep the muscle movement free of tension and keeps the skin from tightening that is present with traditional facelifts.  Traditionally the skin of the face would be pulled more horizontally to flatten out the wrinkles. This impacted the corners of the mouth and the eyes as they were pulled and the face and the cheek looked flat. However, with deep plane facelift, the patient will have a more natural look with smooth features.  This is accomplished as angles of the lift are changed to be more vertical for maximum rejuvination. The vertical facelift angles will differ with age and Dr. Moz adjusts that angle to make sure the patient gets the most optimum result.

What Is a Mini Face Lift?

Dr. Mozaffari introduces many of his patients to the mini face lift procedure. This surgery corrects signs of aging in the lower and mid-face, and it is ideal for patients who do not have advanced signs of aging in the upper area of the face.

How Is a Facelift Performed?

Incisions are made along the hairline and around the ear. The tissue is pulled taut over the face to create a younger and natural appearance. Dr. Mozaffari may opt to tighten facial muscles and reposition fat during the procedure.

What Can I Expect During Recovery from My Facelift?

The initial recovery period for facelift typically takes two to three weeks. Initial symptoms should subside within two weeks after surgery, while minor swelling and bruising may last a bit longer but can easily be concealed with makeup. Most patients return to work and resume normal activities one to three weeks after surgery. Patients can typically resume (or start) light exercise two weeks after surgery depending on their healing, the degree of surgery, and their job requirements. Are the Results of My Facelift Permanent?

At what age should you get a facelift?

Knowing when to get a facelift isn’t so much based on your chronological age, but, rather, the aged appearance of your skin. In general, people may want to consider a facelift from their 40s to their 60s. Signs of aging that may indicate it’s time for a facelift are deep wrinkles and creases, as well as moderate to severe sagging. Facelift surgery is typically recommended when non-surgical options no longer provide the desired degree of correction. You should also be aware that facelift surgery may not help with more superficial signs of aging, such as dark spots. In these cases, Dr. Mozaffari recommends other treatments be performed in conjunction with a facelift.

How much younger will I look after a facelift?

Facelift surgery produces dramatic results, and patients report that they look 10 to 15 years younger. On average, patients can expect to take about 12 years off their appearances with facelift surgery.

What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a medical condition that causes enlarged breasts in men. Although large male breasts are often considered a sign of being out of shape, the condition can cause "man boobs" in even the most toned men.
