Getting a Neck Lift with Dr. Moz of Belladerma Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Center is a great option for anyone embarrassed by sagging skin or excess fat in the jawline and neck area. Though the majority of facial rejuvenation patients are female, neck lift is just as safe and effective for men as women. Here, Dr. Moz discusses the details of neck lift for men.

What Does Neck Lift Accomplish?

Neck lift can be very effective when the lower face and neck area appear to have aged faster than the rest of the face. Men that inherited a full and thick neck or poorly defined jawline can also benefit from neck lift. And neck lift can be folded into a standard facelift if the entire face and neck look aged. A small chin implant can easily be inserted at the same time to create a stronger masculine profile.

The procedure improves the appearance of the following:

  • Loose skin on the lower face and neck (i.e., a “turkey neck”)
  • Muscle banding on the neck that creates irregular contours
  • Excess fat under the chin (i.e., a “double chin”)
  • “Weak” chin profile (especially if a small chin implant is used)

After neck lift, the jawline looks more defined and masculine, and the neck itself looks youthful. Patients tend to look as though they lost weight.

Procedural Details

Your neck lift procedure will be customized to your unique needs and goals (focusing on your specific problem areas), but the surgical steps are generally the same.

Dr. Moz makes the surgical incisions around the ear; if needed, he makes an additional incision underneath the chin. Through the incision, he removes excess fatty deposits using liposuction techniques and modifies the platysma muscles of the neck as needed to eliminate muscle cords or horizontal banding. In some cases, Dr. Moz also uses a special technique that removes the deep “subplatysmal fat” that liposculpture misses. Dr. Moz removes excess saggy skin and re-drapes the remaining skin more tightly over the neck. The Adam’s apple can be maintained to preserve a classically masculine appearance.

Dr. Moz is closely attuned to the innate differences between his male and female patients. For example, beard hair patterns and the thickness of most men’s skin can present challenges, but Dr. Moz can adeptly workaround these issues.

Recovery from neck lift takes one to two weeks and the incision lines generally heal well. Any scarring is usually concealed within the natural folds of the skin.
