When used properly, Restylane Lyft and Juvederm Voluma are both safe and effective dermal and sub-dermal fillers. Dr. Moz of Belladerma Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Care Center offers both options as part of his non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments. Here, he breaks down the similarities and differences between the products.

Key Similarities and Differences

Both Restylane Lyft (from Galderma) and Juvederm Voluma (from Allergen) are formulated from hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in the body. When injected, hyaluronic acid behaves like an inflated cushion to support the facial structures and tissues that have lost volume due to the aging process. Hyaluronic acid also draws water to the surface of the skin to keep it hydrated. The techniques to inject both products are generally the same.

A key difference between Lyft and Voluma is that the latter contains Vycross cross-linking technology, which connects the strands of hyaluronic acid in the product. This Vycross technology is responsible for the thickness and smooth consistency of the gel and Voluma’s longevity.

Another difference is the price points of the products. Voluma tends to be a little more expensive than Lyft (although both are affordable options).

More about Restylane Lyft

Restylane Lyft, formerly known as Perlane, is FDA-approved to add fullness to the cheek area in patients over the age of 21. It can be used to accomplish two goals: to enhance the shape of the cheek area and to correct moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds (including nasolabial folds or the folds between the nose and the outer corners of the mouth). Studies have shown that Lyft results last up to a year.

More about Juvederm Voluma

Juvederm Voluma is also FDA-approved for the correction of age-related volume loss in the cheeks. It can be injected into the apples, apex or hollows of the cheeks to subtly lift, contour and define them. Studies have shown Voluma results last up to two years, and when treated again, patients needed less of the product to achieve the same results. Both products are used as more of a “shaper” than a skin wrinkle filler and are injected deeper and into thicker tissues.

Find the Product that is Right for You

Generally, the choice of injector is more important than the choice of filler. With a great injector, you can achieve noticeable results with Lyft or Voluma.
